Lets try doing the "BATMAN" logotype symbol that we' ve seen in films and comics. Just use the ellipse tool available in photoshop and cut out some parts using the ellipse and rectangle marquee tool as given below.

Step 1

Create a new photoshop document and fill it with the with background color as some darker shade of red.Use the ellipse option from shape tool with ther foreground color set to black.Draw an ellipse ,"RASTERISE" it and then cut one half of it as given.It will be hard to make both sides of the symbol with the same size and shape.So we use only one half,work on it and then make a duplicate from that itself for the other side also.

Step 2

Make sure that the ellipse is been cut exactly half so that it matches when we make a duplicate.Now use the rectangle marquee tool and select a part of this half ellipse as shown.Also use the "free transform selection" by right clicking the selection and rotate it as below.Cut and remove the selection.

Step 3

Similarly,use the ellipse marquee tool and cut a part of our half ellipse as given.Use the "free transform selection" wherever necessary.

Now lets cut the bottom part of the logo.Use the same ellipse marquee tool and cut the bottom part as below.
