Create cool icons in 3 easy steps

Icons - They are everywhere, small in size but play a huge role in communication design. So how to make cool icons? With the help of today's tutorial you can learn to create them in 3 easy steps. Before staring we should know what makes an icon cool? Well, the secret lies in the simplicity of the icon, that means how easily one can recognize your icon. Have a look at the Navigation tool bar in your Mozila or Internet Explorer web browser, there you will see the icons in their simplified version, study them. The idea is to make ourself a better Graphic Designer rather than a DTP Operator. Lets start. Here I am creating an icon which represents 'Document'. Step1) Create a new layer and draw a rectangle using the marquee tool and fill it with any colour you want. Step2) Right click on the layer> open the blending options and set the following values in it:- Drop Shadow: (keep the default setting as it is and change the following) Opacity: 34 Angle: 120 Distance: 3 Spread: 0 Size: 5 Gradient Overlay: Use from light grey to white as you can see below. Stroke: 1px Color: fill with light grey Click on Ok. (Tip: Right click on same layer and click on 'Copy layer Style'. Next time when you want to use the same effects just right click on target layer and click 'Paste layer Style') Step 3) Create one more layer and add some details in your icon like I have added some lines and a box which represents picture in the document. and your icon is ready. Once your icon is ready. Create different icons and make sure you use the same colors scheme for all the icons. -thanks.
