step 1 Let's get started. Open up photoshop. I am going to take this image:: |
step 2 Lil darling, isn't he? This is a cute photo but not one I want to print as it is. So, Corey is going to have a make over. First, let's tidy up the shot. I want to get rid of that cut on his nose from where he walked into the wall (again), and a few other blemishes. Select the clone tool (S), and from the drop down menu under the brushes, make it soft and quite small. Now ALT+click on an area just under the cut and click again on the cut: |
step 3 Gone! Now let's do the same thing with other blemishes. Don't forget to zoom in and change brush sizes if you need to. If you press and hold the spacebar, you can drag the canvas around. Very handy. Take your time doing this. |
step 4 Right, I think that is as good as it's going to get. Now for some photoshop magic. Press SHIFT+CRTL+U to desaturate. Now CRTL+L to bring up the levels screen. I want the midtones to be a little lighter, and the shadows a little darker: |
step 5 Now make 2 copies of our base layer. Select the bottom layer (base copy 2) and go Filters->Blur->Motion blur. Set the distance to 20, and try to change the angle a little so it is the same as his angled head. |
step 6 Ok, select the next layer copy and do the same thing, but make the distance 10 instead. You also need to change this layer's blending mode to 'Screen': |
step 7 Make a new layer at the top. SHIFT+M and you will see that the Marquee tool has decided to turn into a circle. Good, that's what we wanted. Drag over his head: |
step 8 Oops, not very good. Go Select->Transform selection. Ah, yes, you can transform the selections. You didn't know that, did you? Move, scale and rotate until it fits his big head, and when you've done that, SHIFT+CRTL+I to invert the selection: |
step 9 Ok, now SHIFT+F5 to open up the Fill screen. Choose white from the drop down menu and ok: |
step 10 Don't panic! I haven't finished yet! Now click Filters->Blur->Gaussian Blur. When the screen comes up, select a high number: |
step 11 Ah! I hear you all sigh with relief. Now you get the idea. If you want more of the image showing through the white, select the eraser tool (E) and make the brush big and soft: |
step 12 Select the base layer and zoom in on his eye. Select the brush tool with a small brush. Press 'Q' to activate the mask and paint his eyes: |
step 13 Press 'Q' again to exit mask, then Select->Inverse. Now we have just the eyes selected. Open up the Hue/Saturation window by pressing CRTL+U. Now we can change the eye color, just remember to check the 'colorize' box. |
final result And this is what we end up with. Cute, or cute? |
